Pilates

By definition, Pilates is a system of repetitive exercises  promote strength, stability, and flexibility. Pilates exercises develop the body through muscular effort that stems from the core. The technique cultivates awareness of the body to support everyday movements that are efficient and graceful. As such, Pilates has been popular among dancers but it appeals to a wider audience. The Pilates Method was developed by Joseph Pilates during the 1920s.

Pilates advocates tout the core-strengthening benefits of the method to improve posture and balance. Pilates targets the “power house” muscles, which include the glutes, hips, pelvic floor and lower back. Similar to yoga, the Pilates Method encourages deep, conscious breathing. Pilates is widely used in rehabilitation settings but is also beneficial to fitness advocates and elite athletes alike.

Private Pilates Personal Training

The sessions are tailored to each client focusing on the individuals personal fitness goals, whilst maintaining safe and controlled exercise training with rehab-led Pilates. Pilates is a low impact exercise, ideal for individuals returning to exercise from an extended break or following injury , ensuring not to aggravate any old symptoms. Pilates is great active recovery exercise for athletes and sports persons, ensuring adequate stretching, mobility and core strengthening to improve overall performance.

Pilates Rehabilitation

Designed for individuals recovering from ongoing injuries. Pilates is often recommended as a follow on treatment after physiotherapy to continue exercise rehab and prevent symptoms reoccurring. Due to its low impact, Pilates is perfect for supporting individuals with chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and neurological impairments (stroke, Parkinson’s, MS). Pilates Rehabilitation is well tolerated for individuals following orthopaedic surgery including traumatic fractures, spinal decompression and joint replacement.

Pilates Back Care

Pilates is recommended as a carry on treatment following physiotherapy for chronic back pain. Pilates as part of exercise therapy encourages spine mobility and strengthening of the core and glute muscles to offload the back/spine, reducing overactivity in the back muscles and reducing pain. Pilates prevent symptoms recurring in conditions like degeneration of the spine, disc injuries, sciatica, sacroiliac joint pain (SIJ) and nerve irritation.
